They say that when Jimi Hendrix wrote a song, that he would sit down and visualize the colors of the chords that he would play. Now I'm not recommending that as a song writer, that this is the only way to write incredible songs, but it's always a good idea to keep an open mind.
For all we know, this could have been a hallucenogenic effect caused from certain substances that were naturally introduced into his body at the time, but who knows, he may have been on to something. As people, I don't know if everybody feels this way, but I can tell you that I feel as though I'm always on the verge of something. Something big.
From what I've read, and experienced personally, the top performers in any field are the ones with big imagination, who can visualize what they want, and then simply go out and get it. It seems so easy doesn't it? If you can visualize exactly what you want, whether it be in songwriting, or life in general, then there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it. That was actually Walt Disney's mantra, "If you can dream it, you can do it." It's not only about dreaming though, it's about visualizing, and if you dream big, dream in detail, because it's those details that will make your dream come true.
Hendrix had his dreams down in the form of color, possibly because of drugs, however, it was his natural ability to dream in detail that made his music as good as it is. I have reason to believe that everybody has this ability, the ability to dream in detail. The problem is, that people don't apply it! It's as though they don't see the use of dreams. Hendrix saw it, Disney saw it, practically anyone who makes a worthy contribution to society is the person that used their ability to visualize. That's what you need to do as a songwriter, and person.
Become your goals, and you will see that you will never have to work another day in your life. And you can quote me on that!
Songwriter of the day:
Robert Johnson!
